128. Rosamond Bedwell103 was born about 1808 in Grayson County, Virginia.170

From Teresa Quist:
Am eager to learn more about the antecedants of my GGG-grandmother, Rosamond BEDWELL who married George H. Porter in Grayson, CO, VA on 29 July 1828. They are listed in the 1850 Russell CO, VA, census, along w/ their children: Fielding L.(20),Cynthia (17),James J.(15), Catharine (14), William (13), Dow B. (11), Martin V.(8), Caroline C. (4) and Margaret A. (2).William Roscoe Porter was my GG-grandfather who eventually went to Greenup CO,KY [it later became Boyd CO, KY] and ultimately Scranton, Osage CO, KS, where he and other Porters are buried in Scranton City Cemetery. I would be grateful to learn anything about generations prior to Rosamond. (Note: This census lists George Porter's wife as Rozen Porter. It also shows a child named Susan E. Porter, age 1. All children, including Susan, are listed as born in Grayson County, Virginia; did they recently move?))

• 1870 Census for Carter County, Kentucky, shows George Porter, 63, a farmer, living with: Ransimond Porter, 61; Caroline Porter, 23; Margret Porter, 21; and George Porter, 19. (Perhaps Rosamond was born in 1807, not 1797? That would make more sense, considering the rate at which she was having children during the 1840s.)

• 1880 Census for Carter County, Kentucky, shows George Porter, 75, a farmer, and Rosa Porter, 74, living with: daughter Margret Porter, 29; grandson Merret Porter, 8/12; and Alec T. Atkins, 4, who was "left by mother". They are living next door to Martin Porter and his family. Oddly, George, Rosa, and Margret are all listed as born in Kentucky with parents born in Virginia, but Martin is listed as born in Virginia.

The Porters apparently traveled to Carter County, Kentucky, with family from Grayson County. The 1880 Census for Carter County shows a Levi Porter, 59, born in Virginia, and his family. Living next door to him are two younger men, Alexander Porter and Andrew Porter, who were also born in Virginia and are probably his sons. The 1850 Census for Grayson County, Virginia, shows the same Levi Porter and his much younger family living next door to Samuel and Elizabeth Bedwell Brewer (daughter or Rosamond Bedwell Brewer's uncle Elisha Bedwell, younger brother of her father James Bedwell) and to Elisha and Delila Pool Brewer (Elisha was also a cousin of Rosamond). Of course, there was another connection between the Bedwells and Porters: Rosamond's sister, Margaret Elizabeth Bedwell, married a William Porter in Grayson County, Virginia, and raised a large family there. (Also, Rosamond's sister Rebecca married a Benjamin F. Duncan and may have had a son named Christian France Duncan; this may be a connection because the family living next to George and Rosa Porter in Carter County, Kentucky, is named France and is also from Virginia.)

Rosamond Bedwell and George Porter were married on 29 Jul 1828 in Grayson County, Virginia.6,171 George Porter was born about 1806 in Grayson County, Virginia.170 In 1850 he was a laborer. In 1870 he was a farmer. Rosamond Bedwell and George Porter had the following children:
