Hall was born on the Free Welch place on Elk Creek, Virginia. His descendants
still reside in that section."

shows Eldridge Hall, 26, a farmer who owns real estate valued at $400, as head
of household with: Polly, 21; Amanda, 3; and William R., 5/12. All were born
in Virginia.
• 1860 Census for Independence, Grayson County, Virginia, taken 26 June
1860, shows Eldridge Hall, 35, a farmer with real estate valued at $200 and assets
of $50, as head of household containing: Eleza, 30; Amanda, 11; Reece, 9; Charles,
6; Lewis, 4; and Melvina, 1. Eldridge is shown as unable to read or write.

July 1870, shows Eldridge Hall, 48, a farmer with real estate worth $600 and
assets of $328, as head of household including: Eliza, 42; Amanda, 22; Wm. R.,
20, a farm laborer; Chas., 16, a farm laborer; Geo L., 13; Lydia, 11; Warner,
9; Sarah, 4; and Minnie, 5/12, born in Jan 1870.
