• An item from the local news column in the _The Globe_, an Atchison, Kansas newspaper, published on July 22, 1881: "Stephen Bedwell, living in the vicinity of Mount Pleasant, came in to-day to file an information of insanity against his daughter, Mrs. Nancy Foster, having been advised by her physicians that there is a possibility of recovery if she is taken from her husband, but that there is no prospect of an improvement so long as she remains at home."
