19; and Jonathan, age 22, whose occupation is hard to read but might be "Student".
1850 Slave Schedule for Clarke County, Mississippi, shows Wm. D. Bedwell
as the owner of ten slaves: five adult males, two adult females, and three male
children (all listed as black).
1860 Census for Waco P.O., McLennan County, Texas, shows W.D. Bedwell,
age 38, a farmer born in Alabama who owns $2000 of real estate and $18,505 of
personal assets, as head of household including: S.E., female, age 29, born in
S.C.; J.M., male, age 9, born in Mississippi; A.G., male, age 8, born in Mississippi;
and F.S. Smith, age 24, a teacher born in Ohio.
1860 Slave Schedule for McLennan County, Texas, shows W.D. Bedwell as
the owner of 16 slaves, all shown as black: 7 adult males, 4 adult females, 2
female children, and 3 male children. There are six slave houses.
Cemetery record transcription (First Street Cemetery "A", McLennan,
Cemeteries of TX online) says that his headstone shows that fought in the Civil
War with the CSA.
William Dawson Bedwell and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson were married on 13 Dec
1849 in (probably) Clarke County, Mississippi.. Sarah
Elizabeth Johnson84 was
born on 10 Oct 1831 in South Carolina. She appeared in the census
in 1850 in Clarke County, Mississippi census shows Sarah was born in South Carolina..
She died on 17 Feb 1884 in McLennan County, Texas. William Dawson
