no longer good)
James Bedwell was in charge of a ferry on the river between AL & MS (I think
it is the Tombigbee)????not looking at my notes....He lived in Butler, AL area.
Then he moved over to Clark Co., MS. He is the father of my ancestor, James W.
Bedwell. He was married twice, but my James' mother was Mary Nicholson. My James
moved on up to Hinds Co. south of Raymond. He and his family are buried in a
family cemetery...Bedwell...in a pasture about 2 miles south of Raymond and on
the east side of the road. One has to climb two fences to get to it. It is in
bad shape. The Cemetery Book of Hinds Co. has the listings, but they are not
all correct. Unfortunately, I relied on my uncle to write all this down, and
his records are in a massive jumble in the basement of my cousin as he is now
deceased. I always relied on him to share, and he became ill and passed away
before we got it all straight. I wish I could be more helpful. My James is the
father of Arabella (Bell) Nicholson BEDWELL LEE, the mother of Mary Aveline (Mollie)
LEE Wolfe, the mother of Dan Bull Wolfe, the father of Minnie Lee Wolfe Thurman....then
myself. I do have some more Bedwell contacts in my mailbox if you are interested.
BETH"
(Note: we had a marriage date of January 26, 1867, but that can't be right).

Submitter: Beth Thurman (terrilee@@ipa.net)
Date: 20 May 1998
I could have sworn that I left a query in March, but I evidently did not. I am
researching the following surnames, who were in Drew County: WOLFE,THURMAN, LEE,
GARDNER, LAGRONE, VERNON, ONEAL, HORN, and WELLS. Minnie Lee WOLFE and Cecil
Allen THURMAN were my parents. Dan Bull WOLFE and Maggie Elizabeth LAGRONE Wolfe
are my maternal gparents. Both were b. in Drew Co.(actually, Lizzie was b. just
over the line in Ashley Co. Charlie Allen THURMAN and Elma Pearl WELLS are my
paternal gparents. C.A. was b. in Drew co., and Pearl came here in l90l from

ggrandparents. Molly was b. in l872 just south of Monticello near the state school
in Marion Twp. In l885, she moved between the Prairie Grove and Midway communities
on what is today called Lee Creek in the Bearhouse Twp. She was the daughter
of Anson Pollen LEE and Arabella BEDWELL LEE, who moved to Drew Co. from Hinds
Co., MS near Raymond and Terry. A.P. was in Drew Co. with his wife and children
before the Civil War because he enlisted in a unit out of Pine Bluff and was
a Lt. P.Z. Wolfe was the son of Philip Samuel Wolfe, who was b. in probably
Ala. He came to Drew Co. with his first wife, Judith T. BERRYMAN about l845.

Grove area. Philip Samuel later married a second time to Elizabeth DANIEL FERGUSON,
who had been married to a Benjamin Franklin FERGUSON, who had died in the Civil
War. Both must have had about eleven children because P.Z(Dock) WOLFE always
said he had twenty-two half brothers and sisters. Elizabeth was the daughter
of Lewis Howell DANIEL and Pherby PENNEY DANIEL, They had come to Drew Co . from
Tenn. Before that the DANIEL and PENNEY families had been in the Wake Co. NC
area. Lewis was the son of Zadock DANIEL and Elizabeth LEWIS. Pherby was the
daughter of Pherby JOHNSON PENNY and Alexander PENNY. James William LAGRONE and
Georgia Alcora VERNON LAGRONE were my other maternal ggrandparents. Jimmy moved

divorcee, Georgia Alcora VERNON MURPHY, who had settled in the Old Troy Community

Georgia to Eldorado, AR, where she is buried. All came from Webster Co. MS. Charlie
Allen THURMAN was the son of Charlie Monroe THURMAN, and both were born in Drew
Co. C.M. was b. in l860 at Lacey shortly after his parents Perkin and Liddy(Lydia)
