He appeared in the census in 1840 in Hardeman County, Tennessee. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Haywood Co TN DW# 847 age70. He died on 26 Jul 1861 in West Point, White County, Arkansas. He was buried in West Point Cemetery, West Point, White County, Arkansas. He was a farmer. He was Presbyterian.

Joseph was only 11 years old when his father's will was probated. He was 15 years old when his mother's estate was settled in 1796. In 1801 Joseph sold the property he inherited from his parents, left Edgecombe Co. and migrated to middle Tennessee. Joseph engaged in farming and raising stock, his land amounted to about 200 acres. He lived in Bedford, Maury and Williamson Counties before settling in Hardeman Co. in 1836. He and his wife were faithful members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Joseph left Hardeman Co. in 1853, moving to West Point, White Co., Arkansas, where he lived until his death. He is buried on the banks of the Little Red River in the West Point Cemetery. Alcey Bedwell and Joseph H. House had the following children:
