C., 16; Lilburn J., 10; Malinda E., 8; George C., 6; Rosamond C., 4; Julia A.,
3; and Martha J., 1. (Charles is not in the household; did he die at a young
age?)

carpenter; Malinda, 17; Caroline, 16; George C., 15, an apprentice carpenter;

John Vaughan the 2nd, and the last born son of William Vaughan the 2nd, and Elizabeth
Fielder Vaughan, was born at what is now called Spring Valley on Knobfork, in
Grayson County, Va. He was born on the old Vaughan homestead on Sept. 16, 1816,
and died there on March 17, 1883. He was married three times and raised three
sets of children.
His first marriage was to Julia Ann Rhudy, sister of the late William Rhudy and
of Aunt Jemima Cornett, all of Elk Creek, Grayson County, Va., Jan. 23, 1837,
and the following named children were born to them:
Stephen Freel, July 30, 1839-April 30, 1844; William Harrison, April 15, 1841-1867;
Lieut. James Commel, Nov. 15, 1842-1920; Alex Comett, Oct. 7, 1844-Sept. 19,
1864 (Lost his life in the Civil War in a battle near Winchester, Va., in the
year 1864); Lewis Clark, April 5, 1847-Sept. 4, 1856; Alfred Augustus, April
15, 1849-Jan. 10, 1852.
His second marriage was on Dec. 16, 1849, to Matilda Bedwell, daughter of the
late Rev. Wilson Bedwell of near Independence, Grayson County, Va., and the following
are the children born to them:
Lilburn Johnson, born Sept., 1850 (Married Canzada Hines and is living at Spring
Valley, Grayson County, Va.); Malinda Elizabeth, Nov. 2, 1851-Mar. 22, 1903;
Charles Crockett, born May 27, 1853 (date lost); George Curren, born July 2,
1854 (Married Laura Elizabeth Fulton Lyons and is living at 5527 Townsend Avenue,
Detroit, Mich.); Rosamond Caroline, born Aug. 3, 1856 (Married William Hines
and is living at Spring Valley, Grayson County, Va.); Julia Ann, born April 30,
1858. (Married John Floyd Poff and is living at Murfreesboro, Tenn.); Martha
Jane, born Dec. 11, 1859 (Married Dallas Byrd and is living at Fries, Grayson
County, Va.); Stephen Clark, Dec. 25, 1861-July 6, 1877; Alfred Crockett, born
June 28, 1865 (Married Mary Crofford and is living at Pulaski City, Va.).
His third marriage was on Oct. 21, 1870, to Martha Ham, and the following named
children were born to them:
Charlie Winton, July 30, 1871-Nov. 6, 1928; William Alexandrew, April 12, 1874-Jan.
15, 1896; Mary Mallie, born Aug. 15, 1876. (Married Samuel J. Hale and is living
at Whitney, Oregon.).
He having been the husband of three wives and the father of eighteen children,
departed his life as above stated on Mar. 17, 1883.
