1868, his wife of 15 years who has had five children with five still living;
son Carl W., born May 1885; daughter Mabel B., born May 1887; son Charley M.,
born Oct 1889; daughter Gertrude, born Dec 1892; son Harry E., born Nov 1896;
and mother-in-law Nancy Bedwell, born May 1828, a widow who has had seven children
with seven still living. They are homeowners.
• 1910 Census for Marion, Grant County, Indiana shows Sam A. Rhodehamel,
52, a salesman in a furniture store, as head of household with: Josephine, 43,
his wife of 26 years who has had five children with five still living; son Carl
W., 25, a musician in a band; daughter Mabel, 23, a sales lady at a dry goods
store; son Charles, 20, a streetcar conductor; daughter Gertrude, 17; son Harry,
13; and mother-in-law Nancy Bedwell, 81, a widow who is listed as having had
three children with three still living. They are now renters.
• 1920 Census for Oakland, California shows Sylvester A. Rhodehamel, 63,
a barber born in Ohio, as head of household consisting of: wife Josephine, 53;
son Carl, 34, a candymaker in a candy factory; son Harry E., 22, a candymaker
in a candy factory; and daughter-in-law Lyle, 34, female, born in Oregon. They
rent a house on 14th St.
• 1930 Census for District 51, Los Angeles, California shows Richard N.
Stetson, 45, born in California, whose occupation is "none", as head
of household that includes: Elizabeth G., 36, born in Virginia of parents born
in Ohio and Indiana, his wife of 12 years; son Richard Stetson, 10; mother-in-law
Josephine Rhodehamel, 63, a widow; and Carl W. Rhodehamel, 45, divorced, born
in Indiana of parents born in Ohio and Indiana, a sound engineer for a movie
studio. They rent a house for $250/month next door to an actor named George
Miller and his family, whose house is worth $75,000. Elizabeth G. is probably
the Gertrude who was shown as born in Dec 1892 in the 1900 census, but why did
she say she was born in Virginia? Josephine Bedwell and Sylvester Augustus
