and $1130 in personal assets, as head of household containing: Mary, 37; Daniel
J., 18; George, 15; Mary, 10; Samuel, 8; Sarah, 5; and Henry, 3.
• 1870 Census for Concord Township, Louisa County, Iowa, taken in Aug 1870,
shows Samuel Bedwell, 50, born in Indiana, who owns $4000 in real estate and
has $1627 worth of personal assets, as head of household including: Mary, 48,
born in Ohio; Jasper, 27; Chester, 19; Henry, 14; Mary, 22; Lizzie, 16; Maggie,
7; Ellen, 10; and Rose, 4. The children were all born in Iowa.
• The discrepencies between the 1860 and 1870 censuses are a bit puzzling.
It could be that Sarah (age 5 in 1860) and Lizzie (age 16 in 1870) are the same
person. Also, Samuel (age 8 in 1860) and Chester (age 19 in 1870) might be the
same.

58, a widow born in Ohio, as head of household with: Ellen, 19; Margaret, 16;
and Rosa, 13. Mary is shown as unable to read or write. Samuel Bedwell and
