Steeple Jack Grasps Part of Broken Rope While Falling
HARTFORD CITY, Ind., Aug. 28 -- Carl Bedwell, a local "steeple jack,"
death by a hairbreadth today when, while working at the top of a 60-foot smoke-
stack at the Johnson factory, the rope to which he was clinging parted. Bedwell
caught the dangling end and by shutting his fist on it and putting his arm
hook, was able to hold on until lowered by other workmen.
