"RITES HELD HERE FOR FLOYD BONINE

Floyd E. Bonine, 82, died Wednesday, April 11, in an Enid hospital following a brief illness. He was born July 19, 1890 in Harper County, Kansas. On January 9, 1912 he married Essie Jeanette Stiles at Hutchinson, Kansas. They established their home on a farm near Gibbon, where they resided until October 1970 when they moved to Wakita. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Sylvia and Russell L.; and his wife, Essie, who died in 1972. Survivors include two sons, Lee W. of Wichita and Richard A. of Carrier; four daughters, Mrs. Abbie Moorhead of Sinclair, Wyoming, Mrs. Dorothy Ging of Miami, Oklahoma, Mrs. Darlene Murphy of Towson, Maryland and Mrs. Elsie Hibbs of Yukon; one brother, Claude Bonine of Kansas City, Kansas; two sisters, Alta Douglas of Kansas City, Kansas and Jesse Walker of Oklahoma City; 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors. Interment was in the Burchfiel Cemetery near Manchester.


IN AN ARTICLE ENTITLED "OFF THE CUFF" BY MARDIS H. DRAPER:

"Know any couple who can top this? Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bonine have been living on the same farm northwest of Wakita for the past 50 years. They are wondering if there are any others in Grant County who can say the same. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bonine were born in Kansas, but came to the Wakita community at an early age. "We lived in a tent, then a sod house, until we could afford a frame house." they recall, adding: "We get plenty of dust, yet we are happy living in a house by the side of the road."


WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE LOCAL PAPER:

"STILES-BONINE Manchester, April 3 - We are somewhat late in recording the marriage of this young couple, but the affair was such a complete secret that not even the intimate friends of the pair knew of it until a few days ago although the ceremony which made then man and wife was preformed at Anthony, Kansas on January 9th. The groom is Floyd Bonine, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bonine living east of Manchester. The bride, Miss Nettie Stiles, is one of the popular young ladies of this neighborhood south of Manchester. The many friends of the young couple in this neighborhood wish them well in this venture."

MRS. F. E. BONINE TAKEN BY DEATH

Mrs. Essie Jeanette "Nettie" Bonine, 81, died Thursday morning at the Wakita Community Health Center. She was born January 5, 1891, in Peck, Kansas to Isaac and Sylvia Stiles. She moved to Oklahoma with her parents in September of 1893. They settled on a farm seven miles west of Wakita. Mrs. Bonine was preceeded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and two children, Sylvia and Russell L.

Survivors include her husband Floyd E. of the home: two sons, Lee W. of Wichita, Kansas and Richard A. of Carrier; and four duaghters, Mrs. Abbie Moorhead of Sinclair, Wyoming, Mrs. Dorothy Ging or Miami, Oklahoma, Mrs. Darlene Murphy of Tawson, Maryland, and Mrs. Elsie Hebbs of Yukon, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were set for Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church of Wakita with Rev. Glenn Millard pastor, officiating. Interment was to follow in the Burchfield Cemetery. Floyd Edward Bonine and Essie Jeannette "Nettie" Stiles had the following children:
