the household of his parents, Samuel (born in Indiana) and Mary (born in Ohio)
Bedwell. Meanwhile, Elmira Gipple, 23, born Pennsylvania, is still living with
her parents, also in Louisa County.
• 1880 Census for Washington Township, Greene County, Iowa shows Daniel
Bedwell, 37, a farmer, as head of household consisting of: wife Almira, 32; daughter
Laura A., 15, born in Idaho; daughter Nellie, 9; son Henry, 7, born in Kansas;
daughter Maggie, 5; daughter Cora, 3; daughter Mary, 2; and son John, 7/12 (born
Nov 1879). The other children were born in Iowa.
• 1895 Iowa Census shows this Bedwell family residing in Washington Township,
Greene County: Daniel J., 52, born in Louisa County; Henry, 22, born in Kansas;
Cora, 18; Mary, 17; John, 15; and William, 14, born in Greene County. Cora,
Mary, and John were all born in Boon County.
• 1900 Census for Washington Township, Greene County, Iowa shows Daniel
J. Bedwell, born Jul 1842, a widower farmer born in Iowa of parents born in Indiana
and Ohio, as head of household with: daughter Maggie, born Aug 1874; son William,
born Oct 1881; and son John, born Nov 1879. The children were all born in Iowa
of parents born in Iowa and Pennsylvania.
• 1910 Census for Washington Township, Greene County, Iowa, taken in Apr
1910, shows Henry Bedwell, 36, a farmer who rents, as head of household containing:
Ella, 31, his wife of twelve years who has had five children, all still living;
son Jesse, 11; son Jay, 8; son Lester, 6; daughter Olive, 4; son Dale, 11/12;
and David J., 66.
• 1920 Census for School District 2, Sheridan County, Iowa shows Henry G.
Bedwell, 47, a farmer born in Kansas who owns his land, as head of household
with: wife Ella M., 42; son Jesse, 21; son Jay R., 18; son Henry (?) L., 17;
daughter Olave, 14; son Dale R., 10; daughter Vera K., 8; son Oscar R., 5; and
father Daniel J., 77.
• Obituary from the Perry Chief of Perry, Iowa on Saturday, February
5, 1927, page 6: "Daniel J. Bedwell born July 26, 1842 in Louisa Co. Ia.
In 1864 he crossed the plains to Idaho to the Gold fields with a team of Oxens.
In 1870's he was married to Almira Frances Gripple. To this union were born eight
children, six of whom survive him. Mrs. J.O. Anderson,Bedford, IA; Henry Bedwell,
Redstone, MT; Margaretha McGregor, Hot Springs, SD; Mrs. Cora Rice, Jefferson,
IA; Mrs. Mary Rice, Jefferson, IA; William Bedwell, Rippey, IA; John Bedwell,
having passed away seventeen years ago (died 1910); Frank Bedwell who died in
Infancy. In 1871 he moved to Kansas and later to Boone, IA where he settled until
1882 when he settled on a farm near Rippey. There he made his home until nine
years ago when he went to live with his son Henry, at Redstone, MT, where he
lived since. He passed away at Redstone, MT Sunday Jan 23, 1927 age 85 yrs. 5
mos. and 27 days. His wife departed this life in 1884. He was a member of the
Masonic and I.O.O.F Lodge. Funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the M.E. Church,
Rev Buehler in charge. The pall bearers were old friends of the deceased. Burial
was at the Rippey Cemetery." Daniel Jasper Bedwell and Harriet Donald
