• From the Chief-Reporter (Perry, Iowa), Oct 22, 1896: "James Rice and Miss Mary Bedwell, two prominent young people of Rippey, were happily married the other evening."

• She is commonly listed as born in Feb 1879 because that is what she stated for the 1900 Census, but the 1880 Census shows that she was two years old in June, 1880. Also, her brother John Bedwell is known to have been born in Nov 1879, creating an obvious conflict with the Feb 1879 date. Therefore, she must have been born in Feb 1878, not 1879.

• 1900 Census for Washington Township, Greene County, Iowa shows James Rice, born Sep 1879, a farmer, as head of household with: Mary, born Feb 1879, his wife of four years who has had two children, both still living; daughter Bessie, born Sep 1897; and son Albert, born Oct 1899.

• 1910 Census for Franklin Township, Greene County, Iowa, taken Apr 16 1910, shows James Rice, age 38, a farmer who rents his land, as head of household consisting of: Mary, age 32, his wife of 13 years who has had five children, all still living; daughter Bessie, age 12; son Albert, age 10; son Walter, age 8; son Ralph, age 5; and daughter Fern, age 10/12. All were born in Iowa. Mary does not know where her parents were born.

• I could not find the family in the 1920 census.

• The 1930 Census for Franklin Township, Greene County, Iowa, taken Apr 12 1930, shows Mary Rice, age 51, a widow who owns a home worth $2000 and works from home as a seamstress, as head of household including: daughter Fern, age 21, a waitress at a cafe; and son Glen, age 14.

Mary Bedwell and James Rice were married on 14 Oct 1896 in Boone County, Iowa.³³⁶ James Rice³³⁶ was born in 1871 in Iowa.¹⁴⁰⁹ He died before 12 Apr 1930. Mary Bedwell and James Rice had the following children:
