shows William H. Bedwell, age 33, a butcher for Piggly Wiggly, as head of household
with: Stella L, age 23, his wife of three years; and son William H. Bedwell,
Jr., age 6 and 11/12. The parents were born in Virginia, the child in West Virginia.

William Hobert "Bill" Bedwell Jr., 73, of Chilhowie, died Saturday,
Jan. 26, 2002, at Welmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.
He was born in North Fork, W.Va., to the late William Hobert Bedwell Sr., and
Stella Pearman Bedwell.
He moved to Galax in 1939 and to Smyth County in 1970 where he retired from Harwood
Manufacturing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy and attended
Georgia Tech University. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667
and the Mountain View United Methodist Church. Mr. Bedwell was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lillie Pearl Bedwell; four children and
a daughter-in-law, William Michael Bedwell of Pulaski, Lisa Karen Bedwell of
Atkins, John Elliot and Crystal Fisher Bedwell of Fort Chiswell, and Carol Ann
Bedwell of the home; four grandchildren, Andy Hale of Glade Spring, Ryan Bedwell
of Speedwell, Wesley Walters of Atkins and Lauren Elizabeth Bedwell of Fort Chiswell;
two great-grandchildren, Jaden Hale and Jared Hale; one sister, Patricia Newman
of Holden Beach. N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Tuesday at Mountain View United Methodist Church with burial
in the church cemetery. Military honors were rendered by the Francis Marion VFW
Post 4667. The Revs. John Graham and Catherine Deese officiated.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the
American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta, Ga., 30329; or the
Wellmont Hospice House.
Bradley-Finney Funeral Home, Chilhowie, was in charge of arrangements.
