The children were all born in Iowa.

• 1910 Census for 7-WD Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, shows Emmett Short, 40, a farm laborer, as head of household containing: Laura, 36, his wife of 19 years who has had 8 children with (illegible) still living; daughter Alta, 16, a servant for a private family; son Benjamin, 11; and daughter Anna, 10. There is a also a boarder, whose name is illegible, a 25-year-old man born in Lithuania.
