• Civil War service records show that Keith Bedwell enlisted at age 21 in
Co. B, 97 Indiana infantry on August 22, 1862. Occupation: farmer. 5' 8",
dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair. Born in Sullivan County, Indiana. Received
a bounty premium of $100 to enlist. Mustered out in Washington D.C. on June 9,
1865. Pension applied for in 1916. He says he was wounded on on July 28, 1864.
Notes say no medical record. Nothing extraordinary in file, went in as a private
left as a private. He was still owed $75 of the bounty when he mustered out.
• 1870 Census for Jefferson Township, Sullivan County, Indiana, shows Keith
Bedwell, 28, a farmer with $100 assets, as head of household with: Sarah, 28;
Asewell (?), 2, male; Samuel Bennett, 70, retired life; and James Bennett, 24,
laborer.
• 1880 Census for Jefferson Township, Sullivan County, Indiana, shows Kieth
Bedwell, 40, a farmer, as head of household including: wife Sarah, 39; son Ashel,
13; son Wesley, 10; daughter Mary, 7; and son Tilden, 3. They live next door
to Asher Bedwell and family.
• 1900 Census for Jefferson Township, Sullivan County, Indiana, shows Keeth
Bedwell, born Mar 1841, a farmer who owns his land, as head of household containing:
Sarrah, born Dec 1842, his wife of 34 years who has had ten children with seven
still living; son Asl, born May 1869, single, a farm laborer; son Tilden, born
Apr 1878, a farm laborer; daughter Eliza J., born Apr 1881; son Flemming, born
Apr 1884, a farm laborer; daughter Amanda, born Nov 1886; daughter Mary E. Hedrick,
born May 1874, married for five years (but her husband is not in the household),
who has had two children, with one still living; and granddaughter Mary J. Hedrick,
born Feb 1896.
• 1920 Census for Sullivan County, Indiana, shows Keith Bedwell, 78, a widower,
no occupation listed, and his son, Tilden, 35, single, a farmer. Warren Keith
Bedwell and Sarah Bennett were married about 1865 in Indiana.396 Sarah Bennett402 (daughter of Samuel Bennett) was born in Dec 1842 in
Indiana.396 She died on
