1870 Census for Elk Creek, Grayson County, Virginia, shows Catherine Brewer, age 38, living in the household of Wesley and Elizabeth Thomas, both age 66, with her two children: Hiram M. Brewer, age 12; and Rufus Brewer, age 8. Hastin Brewer and Catherine Thomas had the following children:
