Beeson Wills

 

EDWARD BEESON 

(1739-1817)

 

 

I, Edward Beeson, of the County of Berkeley & commonwealth of Virginia, being weak in body but of sound mind and memory do make, pronounce and delare this to be my last Will & Testament in manner & form following, viz:

 

Item, I give unto my wife Jane Beeson five thousand dollars to be paid to her by my executors out of the first monies received arriving out of the sale of my real Estate which sum I give to her for ever and to be disposed of as she may thik proper at her decease. I also give to my said wife her choice of two feather beds with her furniture, one milch cow of her own choice, my clock, her choice of a horse, my gigg & harness, one case of drawers, half a dozen of silver tea spoons, half a dozen of silver table spoons, one set of Tea equipage, one Tea kettle, one coffee pot, one dutch oven, one pot with their pot hooks, one pot rack, one set of And irons, her choice of helf a dozen of chairs, these I give in addition to the above sume of five thousand dollars, and to be disposed of at her deaths as she may think proper.

It is also my will and I do hereby direct that as soon after as my Executors hereinafter named shall in their discretion think proper sell to the best advantage all my real & personal property of every discription (the specific legacies herein contained excepted) and the money arising thereform after all my just debts are paid to be disposed of in the following manner (Viz.): To my son Jesse Beeson I give thirteen thousand dollars to him and his heirs forever. To my son Micahjah Beeson I give eleven thousand dollars to him and his heirs forever. To my son Edward Beeson I give fourteen thousand dollars to him and his heirs forever. To my son James Beeson I give eleven thousand dollars to him & his heirs forever. to my daughter Elice Clever I give four thousand dollars to her and her heirs forever. To my daughter Tace Beeson I give four thousand dollars to her and her heirs forever. To my Daughter Charity Hibbert I give four thousand dollars to her and her heirs forever. To my grandchildren Mary, Edward and Marina Wickersham I give three thousand five hundred dollars to be equally divided between them as the severally arise to the age of twentyone but in case eith shall die before that period the share or shares of the deceased shall go to the survivors or suvivor and should it so happen that my three grandchildren above mentioned should all die before they arrive to the age of twent-one, then and in that case the whole sum willed to them together with the interest is to be equally divided among my own children and their heirs and I do appoint Jonathan Wickersham Guardian to my said three grandchildren who is to receive their legacy afore and put it to interest untill they respectively arrive to the age of twenty-one then to pay to each their equal proportion of their Legacy together with the interest arriving thereon.

 

It is further my will and desire that when my real estate is sold that after first paying my wife Jane Beeson the five thousand dollars willed to her, the balance as it come into the hands of my Executors is to be paid to my several Legatees in the following manner, that is to say, to Jesse, Micajah, Edward, James, Martha, Elice, Tacy, charity and my three grandchildren aforesaid each of them in proportion to their several Legacies untill the whole is paid off. If it should so happen that the proceeds of my whole estate both real & personal should no amount to a sufficient sum to pay all Legacies in my will contained and debts, then I direct that the deficiency shall be decuted from each Legatee in proportion to their respective Legacies.

 

It is further my will and desire that until my real property is sold the Estate is to be cultivated and managed as at present & after deducting all expenses the neat profit to be divided among my Legatees in proportion to their respective Legacies.

 

I also give and bequeath to my Daughter Tace Beeson one feather bed, bed stead & furniture, one case of drawers, one bay mare called Fan or one other of equal value & bridle & saddle to her & her heirs forever.

 

Item, I give & bequeath unto my grand Daughter Jane B. Bruice one share which I own in the Potomic River Company to her & her heirs forever.

 

Item, I give and bequeath unto my grand Daughter Martha B. Clever my other share in the Potomic River Company to her & here heirs forever.

 

And lastly I appoint my sons Jesse Beeson, Micajah Beeson, Edward Beeson, Junr., David Ridgeway, Aaron Hibbert, Philip Nadenbousch & James Stepnehson Executors of this my last will & Testament, revoking all other will by me heretofore made. In testamony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seald this 18th day of May 1817.

Signed sealed acknowledge & pronounced by Edwd. Beeson the Testator to be his last will & Testament in presence of us who be requested to sign the same as witnesses.
