Biography :

Bruno Cloves (or Close) residence Kansas City: 12nd Kansas Infantry; enlisted Aug. 20, 1862; mustered Sept. 25, 1862 in the 12th Kansas infantry; mustered out with regiment June 30, 1865. Son of Pieter Claus and Charlotta Voet from Dentergem, Belgium.

He enlisted in Randall, Kansas, a Private in Co. A. and settled in Osage township, Camden Co after the war. Married to Lucy Long born Missouri. They had at least two children: Richard born about 1876, William born about 1878 and Della in 1879. He spent there, a farmer, the remaining of his life, and died there at a very old age, almost one hundred (rather 95 y.o.) as his death certificate mention it.

He also spent some time at the Soldier’s Home, from September 1919 till April 1922 and from August of the same year till December 1923. He died  February 18, 1931 and is buried in the Zion Cemetery at Linn Creek.

Some more Belgians enlisted in the 12th Kansas Infantry:

Peter Daenekindt (Peter Donnika), Co A, enlisted at Wyandotte on August 18, 1862, a farmer aged 36 years; dismissed for disability, March 18, 1864 at Fort Smith

Edward Hollovoet (Edward Hollevet), Co A , enlisted at Wyandotte on August 22, 1862, a soldier aged 42 years; deserted 26 Oct 1862 at Westport, Mo. He had previously enlisted in 25th Missouri infantry on December 20, 1861 but had been discharged for disability at the end of March 1862. He was captured at Kansas City on July 2, 1863 and sent to Schofield (Alexander) Barraks, near St Louis, Mo.

And at least one in the 11th Kansas Cavalry:

Nicolas Roberti, Co H, enlisted at Topeka on August 21, 1862, a laborer aged 19 years, son of Henry Roberty a brewer from Topeka who settled there in 1855, promoted Corporal, mustered out with Company on September 13, 1865. Previous enlistment in the 2nd Kansas Infantry, a three month regiment (from June to october 1861) who participated at the battle of Wilson’s Creek. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Leadville, Lake County, Colorado.

I’m adding this information as he was at the same place where Edward Deyeager was living in 1880. No date on his tombstone but a headstone was provided in 1887 and an application of pension for minor was introduced on August 16, 1890 and granted. More researches gives me his birthdates as 3 February 1842 and his death on 22 July 1887. And also because Bruno Claus a farmer from Denterghem,  Edouard De Jaegher a farmer from Denterghem, Pierre Albert Daenekint (or Danckinz) a farmer from Furnes, Edouard Hollevoet a farmer and glass cutter from Ardoye, emigrated to the States on March 30, 1850, on board the George Stevens, arrival in New Orleans on June 8, 1850, paupers families and individuals sent by the Belgian government  to the Joseph Guinotte Belgian settlement  at Kansas City. From those people, there is also Victor Somers from Ruremonde, who enlisted in the 4th Missouri Cavalry and maybe more people.
