THE BOOK OF MEMORY

Program of the Pageant Given at Belleville, June 24th, 1925

PART I—SYNOPSIS

The Memorial Book opens. The Memory Sprites appear leading forth the Spirit of Belleville, who sends her knights to bring settlers for the community. Joshua Bradley, one of the early settlers, goes about founding schools and encourages the opening of one in Belleville. He is shown visiting a little log school house. The citizens of the community decide to build Union Academy and hold a donation party to obtain the necessary funds and aid. Representative citizens from surrounding communities offer assistance. Jedediah Burchard, a traveling preacher, is shown in a perilous trip across Henderson Harbor. He brings his sailors safe to shore by prayers, thus converting several of them. The Old Academy is in danger of being sold at auction for failure to pay a mortgage because of hard times among the settlers: It is saved from this fate by one Calvin Clark.
