Generation No. 1 1. HANNAH3 BENNETT (ISAAC2, ?1)1 was born Abt. 1785 in Pennsylvania, and died January 26, 1859 in Scarborough township, York county, Ontario, Canada. She married (1) ? BARTON Abt. 1801 in Probably Pennsylvania. He died Bef. June 1809.She married (2) JONATHAN ASHBRIDGE June 21, 1809 in Scarborough twp., York Co., Ontario, son of JONATHAN ASHBRIDGE and SARAH JAMES. He was born 1773 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Notes for HANNAH BENNETT: At age 16, Hannah became involved with John Black of Stoney Creek township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. In 1799, Hannah became pregnant with John Black's child. A *record of this is filed at the Somerset Courthouse, John Black being charged with Fornication. John was fined $300, which his father, James Black paid. Hannah was fined $200, which her father, Isaac paid. It is not know the fate of the child fathered by John Black. Shortly after this, Hannah married a Mr. Barton somewhere between 1800 and 1804. Hannah and Mr. Barton had three daughters, Delilah, Julia Ann and Phoebe. No information has been found for Mr. Barton, where he came from, his age, etc... He died by the year 1808. (See "Musing & Speculations" page also) It is said that Hannah's brother Jacob brought her and the children to York County, Ontario, Canada after the death of her 1st husband. She remarried to Jonathan Ashbridge in Toronto, June 1809. Hannah & Johnathan had 7 children together. Hannah made a trip back to Pennsylvania bringing along her son Isaac who was a child at the time. According to Mrs. Bennett Draper, her neice, "she was a fine looking woman, tall, heavy set, fair, with blue eyes and light hair." More About ? Also the use of my light waggon and horse at any time she may require same with the west half of my dwelling house with the whole of the garden in front and rear and two cows for her own use. And it is my wish that my daughters Rebeca and Amy shall remain in my dwelling house and have their support the same as they had in my lifetime as long as they remain single and my horses, cattle and sheep to remain during the lifetime of my wife for the benefit of the farm and family. And the fruit in the orchard to be divided among my children..." It is apparent in reading Jonathan Ashbridge's will that he was a loving father and husband and treated his step-daughter's (Barton's children) as his own.
