Amie Aurora Thompson was born July 22, 1899
in Henderson, Texas to Louis Cemore Thompson and Lillian Josie Odom. She
moved with the family to Greer County, Oklahoma when she was about eight years
old.
Aurora married James Thompson (Tom) Haynes,
Sr. on March 7, 1920. Tom was a farmer and a trader. He farmed in Oklahoma,
Shamrock, Texas and Canadian, Texas. He moved his family to Amarillo in 1936.
Aurora suffered from Hodgkins disease for a
number of years before succumbing to it July 7, 1937.
Tom and Aurora Thompson had the following children:
Eugene and J.T. had families, but we have no
information on them at this time. Mildred was married to John "Butch" Plant
and they had two sons. Eugene and Mildred lived in Amarillo most of their
lives. J.T. lived and worked in Lubbock as a dry cleaner. Eugene was a
railroad engineer on the Burlington line.
Aurora's sister, Minnie Floyd Thompson, was a
registered nurse, and during Aurora's final illness, Minnie moved in with the
family and took care of her. After Aurora's death, she cared for the orphaned
children and ultimately married Tom Haynes.
Some old snapshots on the Haynes family are
shown on the next page.
