There are many branches of this family in Kent, recorded as far back as Edward III
This branch of the family is from north west Kent,  the Medway parishes of Rainham, Northfleet, Halstow and Ifield.

           1/ James Tilden 1652 - 1704 was from Rainham. He was a Yeoman, meaning a freehold farmer owning his land. 
                he was married in Loose Kent on 12/10/1678 to Alice Nash  [b. 1653 in Marden]  and they had 4 sons:
            
                        1/ William 1682 - 1714, he married Mary Peele,   [ they had 6 children ]
                        2/ George 1684 - 1687
                        3/ John [1] 1686 - 1725  bapt.12/04/1686 in Rainham
                        4/ Matthew 1690 - 1730

John Tilden [1] lived in Halstow,  he was married on 02/09/1714 in St George's church Canterbury to  Sarah Hadfield,  
Sarah was bapt. 16/10/1692 in Stockbury nr Sittingbourne, daughter of William and Elizabeth Nash
John and Sarah had a son John [2] bapt. 16/03/1725 in Rainham

John Tilden [2] lived in Northfleet, he was married on 31/12/1745 to  Elizabeth Plummer  [ 1726 – 13/01/1788 ]  
Elizabeth was bapt. 29/05/1730 in Westerham,  daughter of Richard Plummer 
They are both buried in St Botolph Churchyard in Northfleet

Around 1760 he bought Ifield Court near Northfleet, an ancient manor and estate dating back to Edward I.
He and Elizabeth had 2 children:
             
            1/ Mary b. 14/07/1762 and baptised in St Botolph's Church Northfleet on 11/08/1762 
                She married Benjamin Winckworth [2] in 1780.    Mary died age 38, on  22/08/1800 in Brighton                 
            2/ John [3] bapt. in Northfleet 14/01/1766 - 24/01/1831. 
                In 1778 he inherited Ifield Court from his father and in 1792 he married Lucy Day in Southwark

* Lucy Day was the half sister to Mary Anne Prebble whose parents were Anne Day and John Prebble.
* John Tilden was an uncle to Benjamin Winckworth [3] who married Mary Anne Prebble.

John Tilden and Lucy Day had 12 children:

            1/ Mary b. 1793 – 14/06/1865 
            2/ John b. 23/12/1795 bapt 05/02/1796,  died 22/01/1872. He married Mary Neame. [ 1816 - 1895 ]  
            3/ William b. 12/04/1797 bapt. 31/05/1797  d.1799 
            4/Thomas b. 19/02/1801  bapt. 22/01/1802
            5/ Elizabeth b. 25/07/1802  bapt.09/12/1802
            6/ Ann b. 16/12/1803  bapt. 29/03/1804
            7/ Augustus b. 28/01/1805  bapt.1806
            8/ Lucy b. 19/10/1806  bapt. 15/12/1808 
            9/ Cordelia bapt. 08/06/1809  died 18/11/1811 
          10/ Francis b. 22/05/1810 bapt. 18/06/1811  died 10/12/1862 
          11/ Henry b. 1811  died october 1834 
          12/ George b. 1813  d. 06/09/1830  [ buried in Paddington]

  Mary and John, are mentioned as beneficiaries in the 1800 Will of Mary Tilden Winckworth, whose brother John was an executor.

The following are inscriptions from St Botolphs Church in Northfleet.

Large white marble tablet:

 Near this place are deposited the body of John TILDEN (late of Ifield Court in this Parish) who died January 14th 1778 Aged 63.
Also Elizabeth relict of the above who died January 13th 1788 Aged 62. John Tilden only son of the above Died January 24th 1831 Aged 65.
Likewise Lucy his wife who died February 6th 1833 Aged 60.
George, son of John & Lucy Tilden Died Septr 6th 1830 aged 17 and was buried at Paddington.
Also Cordelia their Daughter who died in her Infancy.
Henry, son of the above was shipwrecked on the Coast of Holland the latter end of October 1834 and all on board perished. Aged 23.
Francis, son of the above Died Decr 10th 1862 aged 52.
John, eldest son of the above John & Lucy Tilden Died Janry 22nd 1872 Aged 76.
Also Mary wife of the last named John Tilden Died April 6th 1895 Aged 79 years.

 
Head & footstone, N.E. corner of Chancel:
 Francis TILDEN 10 Dec. 1862 aged 52.
Mary Tilden 14 June 1865 aged 68

  In memory of John TILDEN of Ifield Court Northfleet Kent who died at Brighton, Jan 22nd 1872, 76 years.
    Also Mary wife of the above who died April 6th 1895 at Blackheath.  Aged 79 years. January 1872.
