RINGGOLD, Va. - Charles Malcolm "Buzzy" Grubb, 82, of 1033 Owl Road, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 4, 1921, in Alvarado, Va., he was the son of the late John Marvin Grubb and the late Lucy Mae Dunn Grubb.
He had worked as a deputy sheriff with the Danville City Jail, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he served for six years as a machinist mate. His tour of duty was during World War II, when he won several metals including the Victory Medal, the American Defense Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church.
He married Lizzie Payne Grubb on February 3, 1942. She predeceased him June 9, 2002.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda T. Davis of Ringgold; two sons, The Rev. Charles Wayne Grubb of Ninety Six, S.C. and Harry Ray Grubb of Ringgold; one brother, the Rev. Gerald K. Grubb of Danville; one sister, Alta Jeannette Morett of Ringgold; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, John Howard Grubb and Joseph Ray Grubb; and five sisters, Edith Osborne, Ruth Wheelock, Vernie Elizabeth Vestal, Grace Jones and Mary Lula Ann Grubb.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, 2025 North Main Street, Danville with the Rev. Gerald Grubb and the Rev. Donnie Mahan officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors given by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times will be at his daughter's residence, 1910 Mt. Hill Road, Ringgold.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ringgold Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 3880 Tom Fork Road, Ringgold, VA 24586.
