Sgt. Gadd was originally listed as he was posted to 611 Squadron on 14th October 1940 i.e. before the

end qualifying date of 31st October.

However once the Squadron Operational Record Book became available at the National Archives it was seen that

he did not fly operationally (in fact not at all) in the rest of October. At that late stage there was no need to throw

inexperienced pilots into the fray.

A note in the ORB complains that pilots were coming from 7 OTU Hawarden with only six hours on Spitfires.

I attach the ORB entry showing that Sgt. Gadd was not rated operational until 30th November.
