Aloha,
My name is Allen Blackford and am currently living in Honolulu, Hawaii. I've stayed here after my retirement from the US Army. Prior to that I was stationed in places like Texas, Maryland, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Germany and Turkey.
I got involved with genealogy after my ex-mother-in-law showed me her research on her family. At that time I was living in Maryland so weekend and evening trips to the National Archives and the National DAR Library located in Washington DC and the MD State Archives located in Annapolis were a fun and exciting thing to do. Especially since, as I further researched, most of my family ancestors were from the SW Pennsylvania area, W. Maryland area and New Jersey. Heck, I was even doing weekend trips to Bedford, Somerset and Fayette counties in Pennsylvania and Allegany Co., Maryland. That was all back in the late 80's.
In 1990 I got my assignment orders for Hawaii and have since lived here. Though we do have a decent Family History Center in downtown Honolulu, it's still not quite the same as being there. As a result, I've slowed down a bit on the research. I guess my daughters birth also played a role in my slowing down. I now do most of my genealogy work through contacts I've made through the Internet. Since posting this homepage in December 1995, I've met quite a few "new" cousins.
Though there are many associated families I'm also interested in, I'm trying to concentrate on the following ancestoral families that resided in Fayette Co in the 1700's and 1800's: ANDREWS, BLACKFORD, BRADEN, CAMPBELL, EVERLY, GRAY, POUNDSTONE, RANKIN, REINIER, RICHEY, RIDER, ROSS, SCOTT.
Ancestoral families in other southwestern and central counties (Bedford, Somerset, York, Lancaster) that I'm very much interested in include: ALBRIGHT, BURLEY, DENNISON, PORTER, RANKIN, TROUTMAN.
