FOWLER	George	Blacksmith	1834: George Fowler, millwright, baptised July 1834 at St Luke’s, Brislington, Bristol, England. Sson of Henry & Ann Fowler. UK census 1851: George, 17, blacksmith, born Brislington, living with widowed mother Ann and her family in Crescent, Temple, Bristol. George married Caroline Huntley or Hurd (according to freebmd.org.uk, but I, have not been able to establish which one) in Bristol in 1858. Census 1861: George head, 26, millwright and children living in Wookey Hole Road, St Cuthbert out Wells, Somerset. Census 1871: George, 37, millwright in paper mills, born Bristol, and five children, including son George*, 15, apprentice millwright, born Bristol, all living in Turk Street, Alton, Hants. Census 1881: George, 46, millwright and four children, Henry, Lydia, Alice and Sarah, living in Ropetackle, New Shoreham, Sussex. Census 1891: George, 56, millwright, born Bristol living with wife Caroline, born Temple, Bristol, and (grand)daughter, Mabel, at 11 Queen Street, Hitchin, Herts. Census 1901: George, 67, engineer’s fitter, born Brislington and wife living at 19 Bedford Street, Hitchin. George Fowler, 71, died in late 1904 at Hitchin. HAYMAN	Charles Henry	Blacksmith	1884: Charles Henry Hayman, blacksmith, farrier. Born 17th October 1884 in Bristol to Charles and Annie Hayman. He was the middle of 3 children but the eldest Son. In the 1901 census he is shown as a 17 year old Blacksmith and in 1910 joins the Royal Field Artillery (TA) .Remaining in the TA until 1914 he is shown as a Farrier and gains promotion to the rank of Sergeant before discharge on medical grounds. In the middle of his service he set sail for Montreal Canada but returned after only 4 months !In the 1911 census he is working as County Court Bailiff. It is not known when he ceased this work but was again working as a Farrier for Georges Brewery in Bristol in the 1950's. He died in Bristol in 1965. Contact Keith by.
HOPES	Silas	Blacksmith	1857: Silas Hopes, blacksmith. Born circa 1857 in Goucestershire. Died:1913. Silas & his father Silas Simon Hopes were both blacksmiths in the St George area of Bristol. 1871 Census records him aged 14yrs, living in Fire Engine Lane, St George and working as a "striker", presumably for his father. HOPES	Silas Simon	Blacksmith	1835: Silas Simon Hopes, blacksmith. Born circa1835 in Gloucestershire. Died:1908. The 1861 census shows they were living at 113 Chalks Lane, St. Georges, West Gloucestershire and lists Simon as 26yrs; wife Jane 23yrs. Children: Silas 4yrs, Charles, 2yrs, Lily 8months infant plus mother-in-Law Charlotte Smith, 43yrs,widow. 1871 Census records him living in Fire Engine Lane, St George. Silas Simon Hopes & his son Silas were both blacksmiths in the St George area of Bristol. Not sure of the exact addresses or whether they worked together or in separate premises. Contact Val by
