The 1861 UK census lists Septimus as an apprentice blacksmith in the household of William Hewitt, blacksmith in Hoff, Westmorland. Septimus is related to the Sisson brothers already listed in your pages. Septimus arrived in Victoria about 1865. in 1869 he married Ellen Millicent Jones and they eventually settled in Numurkah. GAINFORD Joseph Blacksmith - Master 1796: Joseph Gainford, blacksmith. Born 1796, and christened 10 April 1796 at Egremont, in Cumberland, England. He became a master blacksmith. He lived in Calderbridge, Cumberland, with his wife Hannah (COOKE of Haile) & ten children. He is mentioned as being a blacksmith on the 1841, 1851, 1861, and two of his sons also became blacksmiths. The smithy remained in the family until the late 1900s, the last blacksmith being Isaac Gainford his great grandson. Joseph Gainford (b:1796) was my great great grandfather. There were other Gainford blacksmiths in the family, but as far as I know, Joseph Gainford b 1796 was the first and Isaac Gainford born early 1900s was the last. Contact Margaret by.
