His name first appears on Hiug. rec's Aug. 6,1718, at which time he was engaged by the selectmen to keep a school for one year at a salary of R48. In this capacity lie continued in the town's ein- ploy for a period of ab. 24 yrs. 111 17:39, 1710, and 1741 he was one of the selectmen of Hing. Subsequently he kept an inn, and this business was continued in the fam. many yrs. after his decease. He m. Nov. 4, 1731, Elizabeth Hersey, (tau. of James and Mary (Hawke) Hersey. She was b. in Hing.
