Will of George NORTON, Barton in the Beans, Leicestershire

On the 22nd day of May 1873, the Will of George NORTON late of Barton in the Beans in the County of Leicester deceased who died on the 22nd day of November 1872, at Barton in the Beans aforesaid was proved in the District Registry attached to Her Majesty's Court of Probate at Leicester by the Oaths of Elizabeth NORTON of Barton in the Beans aforesaid Widow the Relict of the deceased, Thomas DEACON the Elder of the same place, Farmer and Reuben FARMER of the same place Builder the Executors therein named they having been first sworn duly to administer

This is the last Will and Testament of me George NORTON retired School Master Barton-in-the-Beans in the parish of Market Bosworth Leicestershire

In the first place I direct that as soon as convenient after my decease all my just debts funeral and Testamentary expenses be fully paid out of my personal property

And my Will is that my Beloved Wife Elizabeth NORTON shall have the free use of all my Personal and real property during the term of her natural life And that she shall have the disposal of One Hundred Pounds of my Personal Property agreeably to her own Will And also such goods as she brought with her

And at the decease of my Beloved Wife my Will is that the Cottage in which I now live with Garden and appurtenances thereto situate in Barton-in-the-Beans in the Parish and County aforesaid shall be offered to the Deacons or Officers of the General Baptist Church Barton-in-the-Beans to purchase for the use of the friends comprising the Church at the sum of One hundred and sixty Pounds to be made over to Trustees something after the same manner as the Bufton Property

And my Will is that the friends to whom the offer shall be made shall have three months to consider of it and if at the expiration of that time they shall conclude not to purchase my Will is that it be sold by public auction to the highest bidder.

And my Will is that all goods which were originally mine with Books &c shall be sold by public auction excepting such Books that are marked thus F T U O T L P I T G B C B F meaning "for the use of the local preachers in the General Baptist Church Barton Fabis"

My Will is that these books be considered the Churches (sic) Property to be kept for the time being by the Senior Minister or Pastor of the Church if there be two Ministers and he will take the trouble of them to lend them to the local preachers without fee or charge on condition that they shall be returned in reasonable time so that they might be lent to others. But if the senior Pastor shall object to this arrangement my Will is that they be kept by the junior Pastor on the same conditions. And if he shall refuse my Will is that they be kept on the same terms by one of the Deacons of the Church chosen by the Church to have such charge and to lend them out to such persons as described above

And my Will is that out of the money arising from such sales as above described or out of money that may be found elsewhere Five Pounds shall be given to the Barton Day School (if it be in existance sic) Five Pounds to the General Baptist cause at Desford (if it be continued as a Home Mission Station) And Five Pounds to the General Baptist Foreign Mission That is if such moneys shall not have been required for my subsistence nor for that of my Beloved Wife's (sic) Elizabeth NORTON.

And further my Will is that whatsoever money may be left after the above sums shall have been paid and all reasonable expenses for the execution of this my last Will it shall be equally divided among the following persons My late Brother John NORTON's Sons and Daughters. My Nephew Henry NORTON of Derby. My late Brother Thomas NORTON's Sons and Daughters if their Mother be dead before the decease of my Beloved Wife, but if she be living my Will is that she shall have their shares to do whatever she may think well with. My Sister Ann B NUTT's Daughters if she be dead before the decease of my Beloved Wife, but if she be living my Will is that she shall have their shares to do whatever she may think well with. And my Will is that Frances BROWN my late sister Rebecca WATSON's daughter shall have an equal share with my other Nephews and Nieces named above.

My Will is that my Nephew Henry NORTON of Derby shall have the Writing Desk presented to me by the Scholars of the Barton Day School And that my Niece Elizabeth NORTON my late Brother Thomas NORTON's daughter shall have the Watch presented to me by the Scholars of the Barton Day School see the inscription.

And for the execution of this my last Will and Testament I appoint as my Executrix my Beloved Wife Elizabeth NORTON Mr Thomas DEACON Senior, Farmer of Barton in the Beans And Mr Reuben FARMER Builder Barton-in-the-Beans in the parish of Market Bosworth all in the aforesaid County.

In witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal this Twentieth day of May One thousand eight hundred and seventy one.

Proved at Leicester the twenty second day of May 1873 by the Oaths of Elizabeth NORTON Widow the Relict of the deceased     Thomas DEACON the Elder and Reuben FARMER the Executors to whom Administration was granted

The Testator George NORTON was late of Barton in the Beans in the County of Leicester and died on the twenty second day of November 1872 at Barton in the Beans aforesaid
