Marriage Licence of John BAXTER, Cauldwell, Derbyshire & Martha BLADEN, St Werburgh, Derby


Know all Men by these Presents, That We John BAXTER of Cawdwell in the Parish of Stapenhill in the County of Derby, Taylor and George LITTON in the Parish of St Peter, Derby in the said County, Framework Knitter are held and firmly bound unto Richard RIDER Esq, Batchelor of Laws, Vicar General of the Diocese of Lichfield & Coventry in the sum of one hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Richard RIDER etc..

Dated the twenty third Day of January in the eleventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second - by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King Defender of the Faith and so forth; And in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and thirty seven

The Condition of the above-written Obligation is such, That if there shall not hereafter appear any lawful Let or Impediment, by reason of any Pre-Contract, Consanguinity, Affinity, or any other just Cause whatsoever, but that John BAXTER of Cawdwell in the Parish of Stapenhill in the County of Derby, Widower aged forty five years, Taylor, and Martha BLADEN of the Parish of Saint Werburgh in Derby in the Said County, Spinster aged thirty eight years may lawfully marry together; And that there is not any Suit depending before any Judge Ecclesiastical or Civil, for, or concerning any such Pre-Contract; And that the Consent of the Parents, or others the Governors of the said Parties, be thereunto first had and obtained, and that they cause their said Marriage to be openly solemnised in the Face of the Parish Church of Saint Werburgh or Saint Peter both in Derby aforesaid between the Hours of Eight and Twelve of the Clock in the Forenoon; And do and shall have harmless and keep indemnified the above named Richar RIDER Esq, his Surrogates and all others his Officers, and Successors in Offices, for, and concerning the Premises:
Then the said Obligation to be Void, or else to be and remain in full Force and Virtue

Derby, the twenty third day of January 1737/8

Which day appeared personally John BAXTER of Cawdwell in the Parish of Stapenhill in the County of Derby Widower aged forty five years, Taylor, and prayed a Licence to be granted to him for the solemnization of a Marriage with Martha BLADEN of the Parish of St Werburgh in Derby in the said County of Derby, Spinster, aged thirty eight years, in the Parish Church of Saint Werburgh or Saint Peter both in Derby aforesaid. The said John BAXTER was then duly Sworne and the Licence was Decreed by me:
