57th Regiment of Foot
Commissioned Officers Roster
British troops were removed from Rhode Island and transferred to New York. New Regiments are raised at the expense of noblemen in England in the summer of 1779. Regiments shipping out on July 1st to North America included: Harrington's 85th, Duke of Rutland's 85th; and Duke of Ancaster's 87th. Regiments shipping out on July 10th: Lord Winchelsea 87th, James Stuart's 92nd; White's 96th, T. Egerton's Fencibles, and Listers' Lights. Shipping out July 23rd were Keating's 88th, Cary's 89th, Achland's 91st, McCormick's 93rd, James Dundas' 94th, Reid's 95th, Stanton's 97th and Lord North's Fencibles. A very contagious sickness is brought into New York by the troops of the 76th and 80th Regiment of Foot Within one month 6,000 British forces are sick.
