Clay Taylor suspect

As a person of lawful age being sworn says, that about six weeks ago I was engaged with another gentleman in raising the Union flag thereon the pole in front of Paskety Livery stable in Sedalia, Missouri.

Just as the flag was being raised Clay Taylor was passing by and stopping near the pole exclaimed "Raise up the D_____d Old Rag ! "

I am satisfied these were his very words.  I remarked to him that I hated to hear any man curse the flag.  He seemed cut at my remark and moved on.  The flag is rather ragged having been in use about a year.

I would prefer giving an opinion as to the loyalty of Mr. Taylor. as I am not sufficiently acquainted with him to be accurate.  I would not think him a loyal __________  from his remark above mentioned.
