B. L. Taylor, Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis June 8, 1863

Maj. General L.A. Hurlbert,

                                           Dear Sir,

In regard to B. L. Taylor’s Loyalty.  Would say that I was at his house about the first of April last.  A part of Guerillas called wishing to stay all night.  Taylor said to them he could not accommodate them.  They then left also, have heard it coming from Negroes that they the guerillas threatened to burn his houses, also I have heard B. L. Taylor complain very much of the guerillas and wished them out of the neighborhood.

Further that in his locality it was considered hazardous to express Union sentiments.  And so far as I know and on inquire (?) of and to me good authority.  I am confident he has not contributed to the support of the so-called Confederacy.

                                                                                   Very Respectively,

                                                                                   Jno. T. Taylor
