The following is a translation of the military information that appears on his Familienbuch (Family Group) page in the Grossheppach church records:

He diligently attended school and learned to read and write. After his school years, he remained one year with his parents. He then traveled to Steinheim an der Murr, where he worked for 1/2 year as a domestic servant at Adler's(?). His master sent him to Heilbrunn, where he was accepted as a drummer by the Wuerttemberg military at the end of the year 1712. In the Spring of 1713, he had to march with the military to Flanders and the Netherlands, and was incorporated into the Aernenfels(?) regiment. In 1714 he marched out with the Wuerttemberg military and until 1716 was in and around the Fatherland. His regiment was placed in the service of the Kaiser, and he served 3 years in Hungary. From here the regiment was sent to Reitern(?) where he was stationed for 2 years. After this time the entire regiment returned back to the country [i.e. back home], where he remained for 4 years with the regiment. Thus he
served 14 years in total. After this, he received his discharge and married. In Hungary he suffered Kopfkrankheit [some kind of head disease with fever.] Also, during his career as a soldier he suffered 2 wounds; one in the shoulder from a (Bommen) ? stone; and the other in the foot from a Turkish saber.
