Manorial records for LIttle Yeldham list a William Parmenter as witness to a deed in 1492 (Essex Record Office, D/DP 214/25)214, p. 377

“William Parmenter, Sr., born probably about 1465, appears, with other Parmenters, at Little Yeldham, co. Essex, in the subsidy of 1523-4.

John Parmenter, Sr., George Parmenter, Sr., Richard Parmenter, Thomas Parmenter, and Nicholas Parmenter appear at Little Yeldham in the subsidy of 1542-1544. These men of the next generation are John Parmenter, born probably about 1515, and probably the progenitor of Family A, given below; George Parmenter, born probably about 1520, progenitor of Family B, given below; Richard Parmenter of Little Yeldham, who appears in the subsidy of 1565-6; and Robert Parmenter, born probably about 1530, progenitor of Family C, given below.”215, p. 269

Harold F. Porter, Jr. speculates in TAG V61 p161 that John (and wife Isabelle) were born during the first reign of King Henry VI (1422-1461).379 John’s will was executed (written) 12 Sep 1516 and proved 5 Feb 1516/17.

“Abstract of the will of John Strut of Glemsford, co. Witnesses: ‘Sir John Waleis p[ar]ishe priest ... the forsaid Thomas Elice, Thomas Browster, John Cobb th’elder & many others.’”379, p. 161

His wife was also known by the name “Elizabeth,” which she used in her will. The Suffolk subsidy list of Glemsford shows she was taxed on £13 6s 8p, paying 6s 8p, under the name Elizabeth Strut.379, p. 161 The two names were apparently used interchangably at that time.

41792 John Shedd.476, pp. 10-12 Born ca 1480. Probably born in Sudbury, Suffolk. John died in Debden, Essex, England, in 1542; he was 62.

John is first found of record on the subsidy rolls of 1523 and 1524, as assessed at Chawreth in Essex 20s. on goods rated at £20. He paid much the largest tax in the parish of which he was the wealthiest inhabitant (except the lords of the two manors) and he was also one of the two collectors of the subsidy for that parish which amounted to £5:11:0, so John Shedd paid nearly a fifth of the whole tax of the place. The fact that he had so large an amount in goods, rather than in lands, would indicate that he was in some kind of business rather than engaged in farming. A few years later he moved into the adjoining parish of Debden in Uttlesford Hundred of County Essex, where he appears as "John Shede, able man," on a Muster Roll of 27 Henry VIII. [1535].

His will, dated 16 August 1541, makes several charitable bequests to churches and the poor, and for the maintenance of a road. The remainder went to his widow and then children

He married Joane Unknown476, p. 11 ca 1507.

They had the following children:
20896 i. Thomas (1508-1585)

vi. Richard476, p. 12 (ca1520-ca1561)

41793 Joane Unknown.476, p. 11

The children were all probably born in Broxted, Essex.

She appears at Debden in Uttlesford Hundred, County Essex, in the subsidy of 35 Henry Vin. [1543], as Joane Shedd widow, taxed 8d.
