"Willard was wounded at Port Hudson, shot through the shoulder. He also contracted malaria while in Louisiana, which, according to his pension file, contributed cold sweats and sleeplessness for several years after the war, and eventual blindness in his final years." Derek Gould. The regimental history describes his wound as "shoulder, slight" [WGB]
