First Generation
He had the following children:

Second Generation
2. Christian HUFFMAN (William) was born on 19 Feb 1788 in Magdeburg, Pomerana, Germany. He died on 15 Dec 1874 in Jefferson, Noble, Ohio, USA. He was buried in Huffman Cem. Harriettsville, Noble, Ohio, USA. Christian married (2) Ruth.
NOTES: The Huffman family came from Pomerania, the German state near the ancient town of
Magleburg. They were land owners having both blooded cattle and horses. Napoleon ruined
them. When his army was attacking Russia the family drove their cattle and horses out, selling
them for what they could get rather than have them fall into the hands of the French. They
made plans to come to America from that time.__When the family left Germany, abt 1827,
they intended to go to the West Indies but the Captain of the ship on which they sailed advised
them to come to the United States, saying it had a more healthy climate. They sailed from what
is now Bremenhaven in a ship that had never been at sea before. For three months they saw "
nothing but sea and sky." Their daughter Louisa was 14 when they left Germany. The family
spoke English when they arrived in Baltimore. They lived first at Baltimore, MD, afterwards at
Hagerstown, then Wheeling, WV. Christian entered land on Middle Creek, Noble County, OH
abt 1836. He was the first German settler in that part of Noble County, then Washington
County. The two daughters remained for some time at Wheeling working "at the loom" and
sending much of their wages to their father to help in paying for the land. When the father no
longer needed their help, they remained at work for some time till they could purchase some
needed articles for themselves which they broght with them by boat to Marietta, OH. From that
city, they walked to their father's home on Middle Creek. On arrival at home they assisted in
clearing the land. Christian specialized in raising sheep , at one time having a flock of 300 head.
They grew many turnips which were kept over the winter as food for the spring lambs.
Christian's wife and two of her sons died suddenly of hemorrhage of the lungs. Christian could
stop blood and fire. They settled on Little Creek, about 5 miles from Harriettsville. [Eleanor

__NOTES: Broke from the German army and came to this country. He was the first
German to come to Little Creek. On his way to Little Creek, south of Middleburg (Mom
thinks they were walking ) he and his family came through Wheeling, WV where two of his
daughters got employment. One day while mowing Christian cut off his hand with the mowing
machine. He was going to the house with it, laid the hand on a fence post so he could open the
gate, when the dog got the hand and buried it. His wife stopped the bleeding after he got to the

__NOTES: To
show the indomitable spirit ... grandfather Christian Huffman, cut off his hand by the new
mowing machine while out in the field. He picked up the hand took the team to the bar and
when he stooped to let down the bars he laid the hand on the ground. The old hound dog came
along and quickly snatched the hand which was never seen again. [newspaper article from
