Martin Dominick Abbott was born in New York, New York on 23 May 1878. He was the son of John Joseph Abbott and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Gallagher) Abbott. Martin Abbott died at St. Johns Hospital in Port Chester, Westchester County, New York on 15 April 1930 and he was buried on 17 April 1930 at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, New York.

The cause of death was cardiac decompensation. Martin's place of residence just prior to death was 38 Victor Street, Port Chester, New York. His occupation was that of a lather in the building trade. Martin was a widow, having been married to Bertha Underhill, who died in 1917. The informant listed on the death certificate was his brother Henry L. Abbott, more commonly known as Harry Abbott, who was living at 720 West 173rd Street, New York, New York.

Note: Although the death certificate indicates that Martin was born on 16 May 1881, we know from his birth certificate that he was born on 23 May 1878.
