This application for a Social Security number, dated September 23, 1942, has the name Loretta as her middle name, but it is scratched out and Catherine is written in. She originally signed as Ella Loretta Abbott, but Loretta is scratched out and a "C" is written in above it on the signature line. It is a mystery as to why Ella originally listed Loretta on the application. It is not known if Loretta was, in fact, a name given to her at birth. However, on a different line of the application, she stated that the name given her at birth was Ella Catherine Abbott. Ella indicated that she was living at 23 Locustwood Blvd., Elmont, New York, and that she was unemployed. Based on information supplied by Dorothy (Abbott) Delaney, Ella's sister, we know that Ella was living with her sister and brother in-law, Florence (Abbott) Siconolfi and Frank William Siconolfi. Note: Her mother's maiden name, Schreiber, is incorrectly spelled as Schriber on the application.
