Richard Francis Abbott - Draft Registration Card for WWI
Richard Francis Abbott - World War I Draft Registration Card

During 1917 and 1918 about 98% of adult men under age 46 living in the U.S. in completed civilian draft registration cards. During those two years, three registration days were held and approximately 24 million men born between 1873 and 1900 completed the process. Richard's card indicates that he registered on September 12, 1918, which was the last of the three registration events. As his "closest relative," Richard listed his wife, Anna, who was also known to family members as Anne. Although Richard registered with Local Board Div. 8 located at 391 E. 149th in the Bronx, his place of residence was 672 Union Avenue in Manhattan, New York. Richard was employed as a stage mechanic (may not be mechannic - difficult to read) by the Schuberts, the operators of the Schubert Theatre. He also listed employment with Abbott Scrim Profile Company as an [not readable word] theatrical.
