| Philip Schuyler Allen died from a heart attack at his home in Chicago, Illinois, on April 27, 1937. The obituary shown in the image below indicates that Philip S. Allen had been a professor at the University of Chicago since 1894 and that he had carried out his teaching duties until only months before his death at age 65. He was survived by four children: Philip Schuyler Allen, Jr.; Margaret Ford Allen; Philippa Allen, a social service worker in New York; and, Mary Allen,who was a member of the faculty at Newcomb College in New Orleans .
