| Abner Baldwin Curran, the son of William Curran and Emily Jane (Martin) Curran, died in New York, NY, at the age of 25 years, 11 months and 26 days on Tuesday, October 3, 1874. He died at 280 West 25th Street, New York, NY (16th Ward).
The death certificate (#188390) displayed in the image below indicates that Abner B. Curran was single and working as a clerk. He had been a lifetime resident of the City of New York and his father, William Curran, had also been born in New York. The cause of death was listed as "exhaustion from phthisis pulmonalis" (pulmonary tuberculosis), which Abner had contracted ten years earlier. Abner Baldwin Curran was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York, on October 6, 1874. Arrangements were handled by Stephen Merritt, Furnishing Undertaker, 149 Eighth Avenue, New York. The grave, located in the Lowery plot (Lot 13721, Section 180) at Green-Wood, is marked by a large headstone. Although Abner retained the Curran surname after his mother married William Benjamin Lowery upon the death of her first husband, Abner was related to the Lowerys and, thus, is buried with other members of that family. |
