Florence Victoria Delaney

Florence Victoria Delaney was born 1 February 1889 in Brooklyn, New York. Her birth certificate indicates that she was the fifth child born to Margaret (Montgomery) and John Francis Delaney.1 Florence's birth took place at the family residence, the Central Hotel on Atlantic Avenue in East New York, where her father was hotel proprietor. Mary A. Goodwin, a midwife, was the medical attendant during the birth.

Florence was trained as a registered nurse and during World War I she served in that capacity with the U.S. Navy in France. We believe Florence continued to work as a nurse after WWI. She never married.

Florence V. Delaney is known to have lived in Florida in her later years where she owned a home in St. Petersburg, but she died on14 September 1958 in the Veteran's Administration Hospital while visiting her sister Maude L. (Delaney) Cahill in Brooklyn, NY. She was 69 years old at the time of her death. As a veteran, Florence was entitled to burial in a military cemetery. She was interred in Section 21, Grave 610 at Arlington National Cemetery on 19 September 1958.
