The Schreiber Family and Its Connection to the Abbott, Delaney, Quimby and Ziesse Family Lines

The Schreibers of Germany and New York

by Robert F. Delaney

February 2011

My direct connection to the Schreiber line is through my mother, Dorothy Eleanor (Abbott) Delaney. Many of my Abbott cousins also have a connection to the Schreiber family through our mutual grandmother, Antoinette (Schreiber) Abbott. Antoinette Schreiber was the third of seven children of Edward Schreiber and Barbara (Weigand) Schreiber. The eleven children from the marriage of Antoinette Schreiber to Jameson Francis Abbott resulted in the eventual spreading of the family tree connections far and wide to many other lines including, but not limited to, Delaney, King, Donaghey, Toolan, Lamb, Siconolfi, Stone, Benjamin, O'Keefe, Yorizzo, Parkinson, Dyett, Lunt, Boerckel, Pitcavage, Horn, Jennette, Mullen, Zerino and McCormack.

The youngest child, Charles Schreiber, did not marry and had no children. As the only male child, Charles' death in 1941 abruptly terminated the Schreiber name for this particular branch of the lineage. Nevertheless, in addition to the surnames mentioned above, the Schreiber roots also live on via the many descendents of one of the other two female Schreiber children, Lena Schreiber. Lena Schreiber married William Henry Ziesse and from that marriage we find branches of the family tree extending to the Genoy, Glass, Beauchamp and McGibbon families, as well as many others. Although Ella Schreiber married, she died quite young and had no children.

At the moment this page is only a basic framework upon which to hang individual stories as they develop and are posted. As stories are added about members of the Schreiber family and its descendents, the appropriate links in the table below will be activated. When stories, documents, pictures and other items are made available on this site, I note them on my "What's New?" page for readers who wish to keep up with new information as it becomes available. Also, photographs - individual and group - can be accessed via the Photograph Index.

The story of the Schreiber line continues with what is the earliest documented generation, Edward Schreiber and Barbara (Wiegand) Schreiber, my great-grandparents. [Note: Link not yet active for Barbara.]

For readers who do not wish to pursue the story in a linear manner, or for those viewers who have come to this site to find a particular individual, the table below may be utilized in order to jump to a particular individual or to that individual's family members.

Index to Schreiber Families & Allied Lines

Marriage of female members of a Schreiber-surnamed family results, of course, in a branching and continuation of the Schreiber lineage through the allied surnames. Readers interested pursuing the Schreiber lineage through the allied lines can do so via the links in the "Allied Line" column or the "Children" column of this table. Although I have compiled information on many of the individuals, quite a few of the stories remain to be written and will be posted in the future, at which time the relevant links will be activated. Allied surname stories and information can also be reached from the Surnames Index.
