Elizabeth Ziesse Death Notices in New York Times
Elizabeth Ziesse - Death Notices

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ziesse, the daughter of Heinrich Ziesse and Maria (Zoller or Zeller) Ziesse, died at age 81 on August 22, 1941, at her home, which was located at 360 West 21st Street, New York, New York. Elizabeth had been born in the Chelsea district and lived there her entire life.

According to the announcements of her death in the New York Times, displayed in the images below, Elizabeth Ziesse had been a social worker with the Helping Hand Association on the West Side for forty years. One of the death notices refers to her as "Miss Elizabeth Ziesse" as she did not marry and had no children. Elizabeth Ziesse was survived by her brother William Ziesse and her sister Mary Ziesse, both of whom resided at the same address as Elizabeth.

Funeral services were scheduled to take place at her late residence at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 1941. The cemetery at which burial took place was not provided in the death notice ("Interment private.").

Note: There is a slight discrepancy with respect to the date of death provided in the New York Times death notice shown below from August 24, 1941. That notice indicates that Elizabeth Ziesse died "yesterday morning," which would have been August 23, 1941, versus August 22, 1941, her actual date of death (death certificate number 17250 - Manhattan). The August 25, 1941, New York Times death notice shown below correctly gives the date of death as August 22, 1941.
