5398The following information was written by Alice Proffer- Spillman, in her book entitled "A History of the Cape Co. & Stoddard Co. Proffer Family and its Antecedants and Descendants." (1976)
“Moses Proffer was the first child born to George Proffer. He was a grandson of John Proffer, the pioneer of the family. He was born in North Carolina on January 28, 1810 and came to Missouri with his parents when he was about 8 years old. He grew up and married in Cape Girardeau County on September 20, 1836 to Sarah ‘Sally’ Courtner. She was born in 1810 in Mo.
After their marriage they lived for a short while in Cape Girardeau County and then between the years of 1840 and 1850 they moved to Stoddard County where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Moses Proffer died in Stoddard County, Mo. on October 27, 1879 and was buried in the Harper Cemetery near Aid, Missouri. . . . .
. . . . . It is possible there were two more children in this family as Daniel Proffer’s obituary says he was from a family of 14 children.”
