Notes for: Wilson L. Bodine, Sr.

There is a Bible record for this family in LDS film 856856. It is on page 6 of some records concerning Robert Smith and Allied Families. To find this, go about 2/3 of the way through the film. This is a contribution by Miss Emily V. Smith who was the chairman of genealogical records for the Peter Muhlenberg Chapter of the N.S.D.A.R. It's a copying of an old account book from 1769, five family Bibles (two of which appear to be Bodine Bibles) and some other records. I guess these were found in the Woodbury Courthouse (county seat of Gloucester County, New Jersey) and at the Pennsylvania Historical Society in Philadelphia. I don't know which place the Bibles were in or if they are still there. There appears to be a Wilson and Rebecca Bodine Bible and a Bible of Wilson's son, Jesse Evans Bodine and wife Maria Mott.

I did have that Wilson was born in 1808 and that he died on July 20, 1856. I'm not sure where this info came from (maybe Biographies of Gloucester, Salem, & Cumberland Co.'s, NJ, John F. Bodine), but it does not match the Bible info. I will go with the Bible info unless something more accurate comes up.

The Bible says Wilson "departed this life June 11th In the Year of Our Lord 1844, Aged 45 Years." This would mean he was born about 1799.

The Bible records below come from the Bible of Wilson L. Bodine and his wife Rebecca Baner. There is also a Bible record of their daughter Ann G. (Bodine) Crammer, and their son, Jesse Evans Bodine. Ann was married to Samuel Weeks Crammer. Jesse was married to Maria Mott. I found these records on LDS film #856856 which is a microfilm of genealogical records from eastern and western Pennsylvania. I think these records were all contributed by D.A.R. members. About 2/3 of the way through this film there are fifteen or so pages contributed by Miss Emily V. Smith. She was the Chairman of Genealogical Records for the Peter Muhlenberg Chapter, N.S.D.A.R. The title of her contribution was "Robert Smith and Allied Families." The description says, "Copies of records from an old Account Book (1769), Family Bibles (5), three dated Sillhouettes and other records found in the Woodbury Courthouse (County-Seat of Gloucester County, New Jersey) and in the Pennsylvania Historical Society (Philadelphia)." I believe these three Bibles were in the possession of Miss Smith. She at least had the Jesse Evans Bodine Bible. Wilson was Miss Smith's great-grandfather. Ann G. (Bodine) Crammer was her grandmother. Elisha Collins Smith and Frankalena Woodward (Crammer) Smith were her parents. Miss Emily V. Smith was born February 27, 1885.

========================================

There is more information on who the Crammers married and from two Smith Bibles that I did not add here.

From Ronny Bodine:

Mary Elizabeth Sinnott in her "Annals...", p. 172, reported the deaths of Rebecca Bodine as 5 Nov 1851 and of Wilson Bodine as 20 July 1856. Yet, in 1850, Rebecca Bodine, age 50, was head of her household which included 5 children. The death of Rebecca Bodine, at age 60, was recorded in the Burlington County Death Records for November 1850 with "old age" cited as the cause of death. Wilson Bodine is absent from the county death records and their deaths were not reported in the local newspapers. The correct dates of death for Wilson and Rebecca Bodine and information relative to their children were recorded in the family's bible and are noted herein.
