Rita Ann Bone Kopp
Rita Bone Kopp was recognized as a Fellow of the Ohio Genealogical Society at their 1993 Conference. This recognition is the highest award given by the Ohio Genealogical Society. Recipients are recommended from the general membership to the Fellows Committee, which screens the recommendations. The committee then submits those who qualify to the Board of Trustees of OGS for election.
At the April 2000 OGS Conference she was recognized for her genealogical endeavors by being awarded Chapter Volunteer of the Year.
Rita has been a member of the Ashland Chapter since 1970 and has served in all offices except one. She is currently the librarian and past editor of their newsletter, THE PASTFINDER. She has also submitted articles for the OGS publication, "Ohio Records and Pioneer Families".
She previously held the position of Query Editor for the OGS monthly newsletter, District Trustee and reviewed President Bush's genealogy as assistant to Dr. Ritter in the First Families of Ohio program.
She has abstracted historical records and newspapers for Ashland and Monroe County Chapters of OGS, along with preparing a book for reprint for the Richland County Chapter on their Civil War soldiers. She is a member of Ashland, Monroe and Richland County's First Families, along with First Families of Ohio. In October of 2002 Rita was made a Life Member of the Ashland County Chapter, O.G.S.
Her books include: Will Book I, Ashland County, Ohio (1846-1857); Francis & Martha Stevens Bone Family History; Bazel & Mary Howell Smith and Their Descendants of 'Smith Holler', Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio; Eleven Years of Monroe County, Ohio Tax Records, 1816-1826; Monroe County, Ohio Tax Records, 1827, 1828, 1829; Index to Hill's 1880 History of Ashland County, Ohio.
Rita is married to Daniel E. Kopp and has two children, Gina and Jeff and a foster daughter, Cindy, along with four grandchildren, three foster grandchildren and two foster great-grandchildren. The family grows!!
