     In the name of God, Amen. I William B. Carrico of the City of Washington in the District of Columbia, being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my wordly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call he hence, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following that is to say,

    First and princepally, I commit my soul unto the hands of Almighty God , and my body to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix herein after named, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequith as follows,

    I give and devise unto my wife Mary Lucretia Carrico my dwelling house and lot fronting on Eleventh street east in square number 1001, and lots numbered nineteen and twenty, 919 & 20) in the same square, and my house and lot fronting on Seventh street east in square numbered 903, also my household and kitchen furniture, and all other personal effects (except such as I shall hereafter devise and bequeath) for her sole use and benefit, and to be disposed of by Will or otherwise as she may think best.
   
    I devise and bequeath unto my daughter Lucretia Peake one dollar current money.

    I devise and bequeath unto my daughter Jane Rebecca Smith one dollar current money.

    I devise and bequeath unto my son William Peter Carrico one dollar current money.

    I devise and bequeath unto my son Joseph M. Carrico one dollar current money.

    I devise and bequeath unto my son John H. Carrico one dollar current money.

    I devise and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Amelia Arnold one dollar current money.

    I devise and bequeath unto my daughter Helen Elizabeth Carrico one dollar current money.

    I devise and bequeath unto my son in law Francis s. Edelin one dollar current money.

    And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my wife Mary Lucretia Carrico to be my sole executrix of this my last will and testament, revokling and annulling all others, ratifing and confirming this, and none other, to be my last will and testament.

    In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal this thirteenth day of November in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven.

    Signed, sealed, published and declared by William B. Carrico, the above testater, as and for his last Will and Testament in prescence, of us, who at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

    This day appeared Robert U. Combs & Charles Newton two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforgoing last will & testament of william B. Carrico late of Washington County aforesaid, deceased & Severally made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see the Testator therein named sign & Seal this Will; that he published his privisions & declared the same to be his last Will & testament, that at the time of so doing he was to the best of his apprehensions of sound & disposing mind memory & understanding, & that they together with Robert Clarke the other subscriber being witness respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in the prescence & at the request of the testator & in the presence of each other. At the same time appeared Mary L. Carrico the Executrix therein named & made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God, that the aforegoing instrument of writing purporting to be the last Will & testament of William B. Carrico, is the true whole last will & testament of William B. Carrico deceased that hath come to her hands or possession, & that she doth not know of any other.
